The 1997 principal shirt has quite a history for a shirt worn only a handful of times. Following a short season in late 1996, just prior to Super League starting and the new summer era, Hull started 1997 as Hull FC and wore this shirt until the early March rebrand to Hull Sharks.
It was worn for pre-seasons and for the club’s Challenge Cup run. That season below the top flight saw FC get promoted to Super League where they have remained since. With a small average crowd, replicas were produced in very small numbers and few exist nowadays.
This shirt has almost disappeared into the history books and very few people are aware of our journey into an irregular vertical stripes and vee combo.
